Description: “This project became possible through the long term collaboration between the staff at the Planting Justice nursery in Sobrante Park, the community of East Oakland and artists, Kate DeCiccio, Hiroyo Kaneko and Malaya Tuyay beginning in 2020. In celebration of the 1000+ fruit trees Planting Justice planted in the yards of households throughout East Oakland, we spent Oct 2024-2025 honoring this neighborhood wide orchard with a giant community art project. In collaboration with Restorative Media, we collected stories and interviews from Planting Justice staff who grew up in Sobrante Park and led the planting ….This zine is an invitation to be part of what becomes possible when we support each other to grow our own food and learn from the plants themselves.”
