Before visiting MZL, please review the information on this page. It is helpful (though not required) if you could let us know you’re planning to visit via email or Instagram DM so that we may plan accordingly, particularly for groups of 4 or more people.
See our calendar for specific open hours/dates. MZL aims to be open the second Saturday and fourth Sunday of each month from 1-5pm.
Getting to MZL
By car: Upon entering the parking lot at 1740 Broadway St., turn left and follow signs for Studio West. Visitors may park in any of the spots available around the warehouse. MZL is located in Studio #12.
By bus: The closest bus stop operating on the weekends is Rives St at Carlton Ave along route 3. From there, it takes approximately 12 minutes to walk to 1740 Broadway St.
Masks-Required Policy
MZL is a masks-required space. We understand masking as an act of community care, particularly amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, that mitigates risk to both oneself and others from airborne viruses. Masking is a mechanism to expand access to community spaces for disabled folks. (See our values statement and check out some of our disability justice-focused zines to learn more about the info informing this decision!)
Free high-quality respirators (KN95/KF94/N95) for children (that will fit approx. age 5 and up) and adults are provided if needed. Two HEPA air purifiers run in the space during operating hours.
If masking is genuinely not feasible for an individual (e.g. because of breathing equipment), please have a brief discussion with a MZL member upon arriving on-site.
Food and Drink Policy
To protect materials, open food and drink are not allowed within the MZL space and must be stowed away. If needed, visitors may step outside of the room to consume food and drink. A water fountain is available within the warehouse.
Other Accessibility Info
Out of consideration for folks with fragrance sensitivities, MZL asks visitors to refrain from using fragranced products—such as perfume, cologne, and scented hair/body care products—on the day of their visit. MZL is also committed to using non-fragranced cleaning products in the space.
MZL can comfortably accommodate approximately six visitors at one time during open hours. (The space may accommodate more during events with other seating/table configurations.) Our chairs do not have arm rests and have weight capacities ranging from 243 to 500 pounds.
Height-adjustable tables are available.
The restrooms closest to MZL are not gender-neutral and are not wheelchair-accessible. Elsewhere in the warehouse, gender-neutral and wheelchair-accessible restrooms (but without grab bars) are available. There are no single-stall restrooms.
The entrance closest to MZL does not have designated parking spots for visitors with disabilities, though there are spots elsewhere in the parking lot.
The entrance closest to MZL has two concrete steps with uneven pavement leading up to them. (There is no handrail.) There is a ramp nearby, though folks often park in front of it. A MZL member will attempt to place a cone to facilitate access to the ramp before open hours, but this may not always be feasible. There is an alternative warehouse entrance with a paved ramp that may be used, though this requires advance planning and is slightly further from MZL within the warehouse. Please contact mulberryzinelibrary@proton.me at least two days before your visit if you will need assistance with accessing this ramp.
Studio West has non-automatic push/pull doors. There are wide hallways that can easily accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
Children are welcome, though we ask that children under 12 come with an accompanying adult. Childcare is not available.
The space in which MZL is situated unfortunately does not have available WiFi.
